Clerkship Table of Contents

R Onc 601

R Onc 601 Multidisciplinary Oncology Clerkship

This two-week rotation will bring students into several of the multidisciplinary clinics our radiation oncology faculty practice in. Multidisciplinary clinics bring together providers across specialties to provide care and support to patients in a single setting. Each clinic operates uniquely and will offer different opportunities, like tumor boards, as well as exposure to other specialties, like medical oncology and pathology.

The multidisciplinary clinics are located across UWMC-Montlake and Fred Hutch Cancer Center. This clerkship is appropriate for both students considering a career in radiation oncology and students planning careers in other specialties but interested in learning more about the care many patients experience.

R Onc 695

R Onc 695 Clinical Cancer Management Clerkship

This two- or four-week rotation rotates students with radiation oncology faculty for a deeper look into patient care and cancer management. Students learn about indications for, side effects of, and physical principles of radiation therapy. And will participate in consultations, radiation planning, and seeing patients during their radiation treatment.

During their rotation, students will work with a variety of faculty and experience multiple specialties- some specialties students may see include central nervous system (CNS), pediatrics, lymphoma, head and neck, and thoracic. Students will also learn about the role of medical physics, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists in radiation therapy. They will see how radiation oncology partners with medical oncology, surgery, and other disciplines in the care of cancer patients.

Students enrolled in this course will rotate through several of the clinic sites our faculty practices in, though they may not be scheduled in every site. The sites are: UWMC-Montlake, Fred Hutch Cancer Center Sloan, Fred Hutch Proton Center, Northwest Hospital, and Northwest Hospital- Gamma Knife. Students are also offered the possibility, schedule allowing, to observe a brachytherapy procedure. This clerkship is appropriate for both students considering a career in radiation oncology and students planning careers in other specialties but interested in learning more about the care many patients experience
