Advanced Stereotactic Radiation Therapy and Immunotherapy Fellowship

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington (UW) is seeking applicants for an innovative 1-year fellowship that combines all aspects of stereotactic radiation therapy with immuno-modulating therapies, clinical trial design, patient safety practice and advanced imaging.

The fellowship offers a broad range of clinical experience through our established programs in stereotactic body radiation therapy (Linac), stereotactic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife and Linac), multi session stereotactic radiation therapy (Gamma Knife Icon), and particle (proton and neutron) therapy. The UW/Fred Hutchinson/Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium’s renowned immunotherapy programs, our Department’s national leadership in patient safety implementation, and our expertise in advanced imaging allow our fellows to thrive in the dynamic field of radiation oncology.

The fellowship’s curriculum is adaptable to emphasize candidates’ varying needs and interests in clinical experience, process implementation and research. Clinical know-how, didactics and trial experience in the rapidly advancing field of immunotherapy and immuno-radiation therapy will be offered. Clinical rotations involve working with faculty from Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Radiology.

Research rotations are tailored to the fellow’s interests. We offer multiple active clinical trials involving immuno-modulated radiation therapy, translational immunotherapy programs, a small animal image-guided radiation therapy delivery platform for both photons and protons, imaging labs, and established patient safety research databases. Department Overview:

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,500 patients yearly from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. The University of Washington is the only radiation oncology department in the United States that has particle delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Technologies include 7 IGRT-capable linear accelerators, the Gamma Knife Icon, one fast neutron therapy and 3 proton therapy units. The Department has direct access to PET/CT including novel tracers, SPECT/CT and MRI, which are integrated into the planning process with standard CT-simulation. We have a broad range of planning systems including RayStation (photon, proton), CMS, and MIM.

The U.S. News & World Report recognizes UW Medicine and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance as #5 among the best hospitals for cancer in the United States. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several imaging research laboratories.

The University of Washington is located at the center of the Pacific Rim. Its proximity to the coast and mountains combined with its mild climate allows for year-round outdoor recreational activities. Seattle is a growing city and vibrant community that provides diverse arts and culture.

Applicant Eligibility:

Candidates will have completed a radiation oncology residency and be eligible for licensure in the state of Washington. U.S. citizen or resident alien status is required. ABR certification or ABR Board eligibility in Radiation Oncology (Therapeutic Radiology), or an equivalent board is preferable. The University of Washington is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
