Congratulations to Dr. George Sandison on his election to Faculty Senate Chair

Congratulations to George Sandison, PhD, FCCPM, FAAPM, on his election by the University of Washington senators to the leadership team of our UW Faculty Senate for a 3-year term. George will begin his term as the Chair of the UW Faculty Senate August 1, 2018. This senate is the legislative arm of UW, and its leadership share governance of the university with the UW president and provost.  The senate body comprises 122 elected senators representing more than 4,700 faculty on the three UW campuses at Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell. UW has one of the strongest shared governance models of any university in the nation.

Dr. Sandison is also the Vice-Chair for the Medical Physics, and leads the Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology, UW School of Medicine.  He is one of the nation’s leading medical physicists and has served the American Association of Physicists in Medicine in various capacities over the past 25 years. Professor Sandison has been a member of the UW faculty since August 2008. He was recruited from Purdue University where he held the position of Associate Dean for the College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences while also serving as Head of the School of Health Sciences.

In the final year of his 3-year senate leadership term, Dr. Sandison will become the Chair of the Senate Committee on Planning and Budgeting (SCPB). The SCPB consults with the Senate Executive Committee and the Faculty Senate on matters of policy pertaining to long-range planning, preparation of budgets, and distribution of funds and advises the Provost on those matters.
